A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- Low engine oil level
- A high-pressure oil leak: injector seals, lines, fittings
- The IPR regulator or the high-pressure oil pump
What you can do yourself
- Check the oil level and condition: in this system the injectors work on engine oil.
- This system is used on Ford Power Stroke and Navistar (International) diesels: the injectors are opened by oil pressure. The ICP sensor is on the cylinder head or near the high-pressure oil pump — check its connector: oil often gets into it.
- The engine may go into limp mode or not start.
Stop and don’t drive on if:
- The Check Engine light is flashing
- The temperature gauge is in the red or the overheating light is on
- The red oil pressure light is on
- Smoke from under the bonnet, a burning or petrol smell
- Strong jerking, knocking from the engine, or the car barely moves
The explanation comes from the error code reference in the AvtoElektrik PRO app.
