A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- Water has collected in the filter/separator: poor fuel or condensation in the tank
- Faulty water-in-fuel sensor
What you can do yourself
- Drain the water from the fuel filter/separator (the tap at the bottom of the filter).
- Do it as soon as possible, ideally today: water ruins the injection pump and injectors, and in winter it freezes in the filter and the engine stalls.
- If the light stays on after draining, or water builds up again, replace the fuel filter and refuel at a different station.
- If the engine misfires or stalls, don’t drive until you’ve drained the water.
Stop and don’t drive on if:
- The Check Engine light is flashing
- The temperature gauge is in the red or the overheating light is on
- The red oil pressure light is on
- Smoke from under the bonnet, a burning or petrol smell
- Strong jerking, knocking from the engine, or the car barely moves
The explanation comes from the error code reference in the AvtoElektrik PRO app.
