A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- Leak in the boost hoses
- The turbo doesn’t spin or is damaged: worn bearings, the impeller is rubbing
- The turbo’s variable geometry or wastegate is stuck
- Vacuum hose or turbo control valve
What you can do yourself
- Inspect the boost hoses and clamps.
- If there’s blue smoke, oil consumption or a whining turbo, don’t rev the engine hard: the turbo needs checking straight away, or the engine will suffer too.
- The engine may go into limp mode with weak pull.
Stop and don’t drive on if:
- The Check Engine light is flashing
- The temperature gauge is in the red or the overheating light is on
- The red oil pressure light is on
- Smoke from under the bonnet, a burning or petrol smell
- Strong jerking, knocking from the engine, or the car barely moves
The explanation comes from the error code reference in the AvtoElektrik PRO app.
