A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- No relearn (adaptation) was done after cleaning or replacing the throttle, or after disconnecting the battery or the ECU
- Dirty throttle body
- Intake air leak
What you can do yourself
- Run a throttle relearn: on many cars it follows a procedure in the manual (ignition on, wait, start without touching the pedal); on others it needs a scanner.
- Until the relearn is done, the idle may be uneven or too high, and the engine may stall.
- If the car stops responding to the gas pedal completely while driving, turn on the hazard lights, pull over to the shoulder and stop. If it still drives but responds poorly, you can drive on carefully, but don’t put off the check.
Stop and don’t drive on if:
- The Check Engine light is flashing
- The temperature gauge is in the red or the overheating light is on
- The red oil pressure light is on
- Smoke from under the bonnet, a burning or petrol smell
- Strong jerking, knocking from the engine, or the car barely moves
The explanation comes from the error code reference in the AvtoElektrik PRO app.
