A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- Low battery voltage (12.4 V or higher is needed)
- The key learn/programming procedure was interrupted (the 30-minute relearn did not complete)
- Only one key is programmed (many GM 2014+ need two)
- Worn lock cylinder (Passlock sensor) or faulty transponder in the key
What you can do yourself
- Check and charge the battery (12.4 V or higher with the engine off)
- Learn procedure: key to ON (without starting), wait ~10–15 min until the light goes out, then OFF for 30 s — repeat 3 cycles and try to start
- Try the second programmed key
- If the relearn fails or the scanner shows 0 keys — see an auto electrician
