Dashboard warning light

The “Oil pressure” light on the dashboard

Red lightStop driving

The engine is short of oil pressure. Even a few minutes of driving can seize it.

Tap the light to turn it on or off, just like on the dashboard.

What you can do yourself

  1. Stop at once and switch off the engine.
  2. After 5–10 minutes check the oil level with the dipstick. If low, top up and look for leaks.
  3. Level is fine but the light is on — don’t start: call a mechanic or tow truck. It may be the sensor, but don’t risk the engine without checking.

Oleg’s tip: the colour of the symbol tells you how urgent it is

For example: a red oil pressure or overheating light — stop straight away and switch the engine off. A yellow Check Engine light with the engine running smoothly — drive on and get a diagnosis.
