Dashboard warning light

The “Battery charging” light on the dashboard

Red lightDon’t put off the repair

The alternator isn’t charging the battery: the car is running on the battery’s reserve and may soon stall.

Tap the light to turn it on or off, just like on the dashboard.

What you can do yourself

  1. Switch off everything you don’t need: heater, heated seats, music — you’ll get further.
  2. Check the alternator belt: is it broken or slipping?
  3. Drive to a mechanic straight away and don’t switch off on the way — it may not restart.

Stop and don’t drive on if:

  • The instrument panel went dark or many warning lights came on at once
  • Power steering is gone or the brakes don’t work as usual

The description comes from the AvtoElektrik PRO app.

Oleg’s tip: the colour of the symbol tells you how urgent it is

For example: a red oil pressure or overheating light — stop straight away and switch the engine off. A yellow Check Engine light with the engine running smoothly — drive on and get a diagnosis.
