U0209 — Lost Communication With Seat Control Module "B"

Safe to drive

A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.

Possible causes

What you can do yourself

  1. Seat adjustment, heating or memory may not work. The unit connector is usually under the seat — it often gets knocked when the seat is moved or the interior is cleaned.
  2. Yellow connectors under the seat belong to the airbags: don’t touch them.
  3. The letter (A, B, C…) is the unit’s number for this make: a scan tool that reads all units or the wiring diagram will show which unit it is.
  4. Check the battery and terminals: at low voltage control units lose communication.
  5. Write the codes down, clear them and check again: after a flat battery, a repair or voltage spikes, codes that are no longer current stay in memory.
  6. If only this unit has lost communication, check its fuse, ground and connector. If several units show communication codes at once, look for a common cause: the battery, a ground, the CAN bus wires.
OOleg’s tip: check the connector

Often the cause is simple — there is no contact in the connector (plug). Look at the connector from the back: remove the rubber seal and you will see whether a wire is corroded or has come off completely. Corrosion shows up as green deposits. Ideally, gently pull each wire towards you one at a time: a sound wire stays in place, while a corroded one simply comes off — it needs to be repaired.

Unplug and inspect connectors with the ignition off.
