A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- The driver is pressing both pedals (left foot on the brake)
- The floor mat is pushing on the accelerator pedal
- Faulty or misadjusted brake pedal switch
- The accelerator pedal sensor shows it pressed when it’s released
What you can do yourself
- This is a safety feature: if both pedals are pressed, the ECU cuts the throttle so the brakes can stop the car. The engine may lose power for a while.
- Check that the floor mat isn’t pushing on the accelerator and that the brake lights come on only when the brake is pressed.
- If the car stops responding to the gas pedal completely while driving, turn on the hazard lights, pull over to the shoulder and stop. If it still drives but responds poorly, you can drive on carefully, but don’t put off the check.
Stop and don’t drive on if:
- The Check Engine light is flashing
- The temperature gauge is in the red or the overheating light is on
- The red oil pressure light is on
- Smoke from under the bonnet, a burning or petrol smell
- Strong jerking, knocking from the engine, or the car barely moves
The explanation comes from the error code reference in the AvtoElektrik PRO app.
