A fault code doesn’t yet mean the unit or sensor itself is faulty: often it’s the plug and connector leading to it.
Possible causes
- Gearbox oil overheating — for a unit built into the gearbox
- The unit overheats from hot parts nearby
- The temperature sensor inside the unit
What you can do yourself
- Not urgent: check it with a computer diagnosis — look at the engine and transmission oil temperatures on the “Sensors” tab or with a scanner.
- If the code stays, the unit is checked and repaired by a specialist. Don’t rush to buy a new unit: many control unit faults can be repaired.
